Summer break is over and so is your quiet coffee drinking mornings.
It’s back to rushing around every morning to get the kids up, scrambling to get breakfast ready, lunches packed, and signing the permission slip your kid forget to mention until you are walking out the door.
Here are some tips to help with morning chaos:
- Get breakfast ready the night before.
Before you go to bed each night, get the cereal out, or whatever breakfast will be.
If it’s something you have to make, do it the night before. Place the food in an air tight container in the fridge, so it’s ready to go. The cup and silverware can be laid out the night before too.
- Have their clothes laid out the night before.
Be sure to include everything they will need: underwear, pants, shirt, socks, and shoes.
- Make a bathroom basket for each kid.
The basket contains, floss, mouth wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, and comb. Place the basket under the sink. This will save time since everything is in one place.
- Get backpacks packed the night before.
Going through the backpacks at night will ensure all homework gets done, and permission slips get signed. Keeping the backpacks in a designated area will save time in the morning as well.
- Prepare lunches once a week and then pack them the night before.
Have three different bins: dry, refrigerator, and freezer. Sunday night prepare each lunch item, place them in individual bags if needed, and then place them in correct bin. Having items ready to grab will make packing lunches a breeze in the morning.
- Eliminate or limit electronics in the morning.
If electronics are used, try a “when-then” rule: WHEN they are completely ready for school, THEN they can watch TV until it’s time to leave.
- Getting up before the kids.
This may be hard, but it will allow you some time to drink coffee before the kids get up.
Hopefully these tips provide you with a strong morning routine, which will make everyone happy. If you have any other tips please share with us.
